Project title: Approximate search techniques for big data analysis
Project description: Big data contains large volume of data and variety of data sources because of which there is high probability of errors in a big data set. For example, OCR processed documents may contain some unrecognized characters or there might be spelling mistakes in the original documents. Despite of errors in a data set, a user can search for keywords with spelling mistakes and in some cases the user may not know the exact keywords to search for. In such cases exact search fails and the necessity of approximate search techniques arises. The necessity of approximate search techniques can be realized in applications that deal with big data where speed and accuracy on search results are desirable. Digital forensic investigation, DNA sequence analysis, Intrusion detection system are few examples of such applications. This Ph.D. project aims to analyze the existing search algorithms and develop approximate search techniques that are effective (accuracy) and efficient (speed) for very large data sets.
